January Certificated PD Day

This session will introduce teachers to integrating student discourse across all subjects to create language-rich classrooms. This practice supports multilingual/newcomer, minimally verbal, and all students as it encourages meaningful student conversations. Participants will learn how structuring intentional talk, dialogue, and discussion enhances critical thinking, social development, plus learning and retention. Key outcomes include developing student academic and social language, fostering communication skills, and creating inclusive, linguistically-rich classrooms to impact student growth and achievement.

This professional development session is designed for TK-12th grade teachers to explore and implement effective teaching strategies tailored to support Newcomers, EL1, and LTEL students using Best First Instruction. We will focus on researched-based McREL strategies to enhance student engagement, comprehension, and academic success. Participants will leave with practical tools and techniques to create inclusive and supportive learning environments that foster growth and achievement for all English learners.

In this session, you will: 1 – Learn what the “Stronger and Clearer Each Time” Math Language Routine is. 2 – Adapt the routine to any subject matter. 3 – Walk away with an implementation plan for your classroom. By incorporating "Stronger and Clearer Each Time," you'll equip your students with the tools they need to use academic vocabulary, refine their answers, and articulate their ideas more effectively.
