Teachers will extend their learning from “Algebra Tiles Part 1,” using Algebra Tiles to support conceptual understanding in solving equations for students in grades 6-9. Teachers will briefly review how tiles can be used to help students understand such topics as adding/subtracting integers, combining like terms, and solving one-step equations. They will then connect this learning to more tile actions by using Algebra Tiles to solve multivariable equations and systems of equations. Teachers will continue to explore the use of Math Language Routines in order to support mathematical understanding built through Algebra Tiles.
